'Adventure Together; Learn Forever'

Don't forget that Monday 4th November is a Non-Pupil Day. Children return to school on Tuesday 5th at 8.45am. We hope you have a lovely half term.

Reading - A Parent Guide to Reading at Castle Primary and how you can help your child

Learning to read is the most important thing your child will learn at our school. Everything else depends on it, so we put as much energy as we possibly can into making sure that every single child learns to read as quickly as possible.  We want your child to love reading – and to want to read for themselves. This is why we put our efforts into making sure they develop a love of books as well as simply learning to read.

The school follows the Read Write Inc Phonics, reading and spelling programmes and children have daily lessons to develop their reading skills from the beginning of Reception Class, through to Year 2 and for any children in years 3-6 who may need a bit of additional support with the decoding of words.

Read Write Inc have a useful parents’ section on their website with videos which show how we teach children to read and write with Read Write Inc. Phonics.

The below documents provide further information and guidance about reading within school and how you as parents and carers can support your child with reading outside of school.
