Letter re opening of school during teacher strike action

Dear Parent/Carer,

Strike Action by Teachers (members of NEU)

Strike Action by teachers who are members of NEU will be taking place on the following dates:

Wednesday 1st February

Thursday 2nd March

Wednesday 15th March

Thursday 16th March

We are not aware currently that any of our teaching staff will be taking strike action on 1st February or 2nd March, so all pupils are expected to attend school on those dates.

Whilst teachers do not have to inform the school of their intention to strike, we have had notification that a number of our teaching staff intend to strike on 15th and 16th March 2023.  Unfortunately, this will leave the school with insufficient teaching staff on those dates to be able to remain open to all pupils.  Therefore, we have had to take the decision to limit the number of pupils attending.

Wednesday 1st February               All pupils to attend school

Thursday 2nd March                       All pupils to attend school

Wednesday 15th March                 Priority places – children of critical workers or vulnerable

Thursday 16th March                      Priority places – children of critical workers or vulnerable

To support us in planning, we are requesting you please inform the school if you are a critical worker who will be working and will therefore need a place on the 15th & 16th March.

Places in school will be given on a priority basis, starting with:

  1. Children of critical workers (doctors, nurses, hospital staff, ambulance staff, police, fire service, care workers) those employed in front line critical public services.
  2. Children who are vulnerable.
  3. Children of other front-line services.

We will be writing to you separately to offer a place to your child if we believe they are in the vulnerable category.

If you are a critical worker and require a place, please inform the school by Friday 27th January.

Please email your child’s name and your role as a critical worker to safeguarding@castletiverton.school

Please be assured the school is doing everything possible to minimise the disruption to your child’s education and the inconvenience this may cause you. However, we need to balance the number of pupils in school with the staff available to be able to offer a safe environment.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs C Noble

(Headteacher)
